- Trim plant growth away from the house.
- Check siding & trim for any damage & repair as needed.
- Move stored items away from the structure, especially anything that absorbs liquid, like firewood.
- Repair/replace any missing/damaged caulk, rotten wood trim, or weather stripping around doors and windows.
- Make sure exterior door knobs & locks work properly.
Interior & Attic
- Interior doors, locks, and windows are operating properly; bedroom windows must open for emergency/fire egress.
- Test current smoke detectors for proper operation.
- If possible, remove any stored items in the attic.
- Make sure attic fans & vents are operating and that HVAC ducts are properly connected.
Electrical
- Light bulbs working properly
- Light switches functioning properly
- Kitchen, bath and exterior counter - GFCI outlets and protective plastic cover.
Roof & Gutters
- Gutters should be functioning properly and debris should be clear
- Make sure downspouts have proper extensions & are diverted away from the structure with elbows or splash blocks where needed.
- Water should always flow away from the home.
Kitchen, Utility & Bathroom
- No leaks under sinks or leaky faucets and shower heads.
- Look for possible water damage or wood rot around toilets, showers, and tubs.
- Grout and caulking is in good condition.
- All fans, heaters, and appliances are working properly.
Heating & Cooling
- Install new HVAC filters & clean dust from ducts and vents.
- Make sure all debris & landscaping is cleared away from exterior units.
- Replace insulation around exterior pipes if damaged.
- Have the unit serviced if it does not seem to be blowing cold/hot air.
Garage
- Make sure garage doors are operating properly, including auto-reverse function.
- Adjust or have serviced as needed.
